Quality

Capturing quality information (defects found and actual amount of time the system runs defect-free at delivery) adds important perspective to time and effort performance data.  Delivering a product with poor quality generally leads to high maintenance costs, expensive bug fix releases, and customer dissatisfaction. QSM has found that taking modestly longer and using smaller teams promotes high quality and keeps costs down.  Taking the time to record the actual number of defects found and the MTTD (Mean Time to Defect) at project closeout is a best practice.
