The Function Unit field captures high level (summary)
information about the size of the delivered project. This field is set on
the Sizing or Sizing Unit tab of the Edit Project dialogs of
Estimation and Closeout projects or the Project Settings tab for
templates Function units in SLIM-Collaborate fall into three broad
categories:
• The Base Size Unit. This lowest-level sizing component is used to
normalize projects sized in other, more abstract size components to a common
baseline. Neither the name nor the gearing factor (always = 1) can be edited,
and it cannot be deleted from the lookup table. The acronym is the only
customizable field.
• QSM Default function units. New SLIM-Collaborate sites come
preconfigured with a list of QSM default function units that is identical to the
default list in SLIM-Estimate and SLIM-DataManager. Their names are preceded by
a hashmark (#) symbol. Because these selection values are used to collect
industry data in the QSM database, the names and acronyms cannot be edited and
they cannot be deleted (even when not in use). The initial gearing factors can
be changed, and they can be made unavailable for selection by unchecking the
“Include” checkbox.
• Custom function units. You can add your own custom function units to the list. Custom items can be edited, made unavailable for selection, and deleted from the lookup table if they are not currently in use by any projects in your portfolio.
