Duration or Resource Goals

If you are using the Design to Goal, Time Boxed, Fixed Team, or Feasibility solution methods, you will be prompted to enter one or more duration, effort, cost, or staffing goals that encompass all lifecycle phases and activities included in the estimate. So, for example, if your estimate includes only phase 3 (Construct & Test), your duration or resource goals should include time and effort spent on that single lifecycle phase. If – on the other hand – your estimate includes all four lifecycle phases, your duration and resource goals should encompass all lifecycle activities from concept definition through requirements/design, coding/testing, and maintenance. To review and/or edit the included phases for your project, click the Project Settings tab.

Enter a desired effort goal for all included activities and phases from the first included activity/phase to the last.  You should include all development staff: analysts, designers, programmers, coders, integration and test-team members, quality assurance, documentation, and project-level supervision and management.

Cost (dollars, Euros, etc.) Enter a desired cost/budget goal for all included activities and phases from the first included activity/phase to the last.  You should include all development staff: analysts, designers, programmers, coders, integration and test-team members, quality assurance, documentation, and project-level supervision and management.
